Routine examinations

We strive to create a close relationship with our patients, recommending a higher frequency of appointments than most dental practices. Modern dentistry is concerned with prevention. We believe that oral health should not be based on problem solving alone, limited to a fire fighting approach to oral care. This is a reactionary form of care. We advise you to take a more proactive and preventative approach. The earlier we can diagnose and intervene, the simpler and more successful any treatment will be. We aim to educate you and motivate you to take an active role in your dental care. Prevention is better than the cure.

We recommend regular maintenance appointments with the hygiene team every 3 months and a dental examination every 6 months with the dentist. At your dental inspection we:
1. Review your general health asking for details on any new conditions or medications
2. Inspect your teeth, fillings, restorations for signs of disease, breakages, excessive wear, infections and other issues
3. Review your gum health
4. Review your oral soft tissues for common diseases and of course oral cancer
5. Review the functioning of your jaw joints (TMJ) and your bite

Radiographs (X-Rays)
At the practice we use a digital x-ray system to generate the radiographs of your teeth. The frequency of the radiographs is determined by your individual risk of dental disease. The more disease you have experienced in the past, the more often the radiographs will be taken. Radiographs help us to monitor beneath your restorations and between your teeth where edges are difficult to see and feel. They also demonstrate the amount of socket bone present supporting your teeth. Radiographs are also sometimes used during challenging procedures to assess positioning especially during root canal and implant treatments.
